EU-LA Round Table about social cohesion at the EP


Organised by Fundación Eurosur, and presided by Gianni Pittella, Vice-President of the European Parliament, on 2 October 2012 high-level speakers discussed the role of the EU for LA’s social cohesion in times of crisis. Vittorio Tonnutti,  EuropAid, emphasised that SMEs are the main actors of development while H.E. Walter Cancela, Ambassador of the Republic of Uruguay, pointed towards the close relation between economic and social development. During the discussion, Margaretha Mazura (EMF and AMERICAS project) highlighted the importance of ICT for an ubiquitous access to education. She was supported by Christian Ghymers, IRELAC, who called education crucial for any social development.
IRELAC - the EU-Latin American Inter-university Centre (former CERCAL - Centre d’Étude des Relations entre l’Union Européenne et l’Amérique Latine) is the newest collaboration partner of EMF.
